From the second I picked up my mom's old Minolta SLR, I loved it. She rarely lets me use it, but the few times
she did I loved it. I think it's a lot like playing an instrument because you get used to the weight of it in your hands,
and when you pick it up the familiar weight is more comforting than say, a blanket, or a familiar stuffed animal little kids
carry around. ( I admit, I still have a few of those.)
It's technical, but at the same time it's not. -Sorry to my English teacher, may she never find this page, contradictions
are a sin, I know!- What I should say, is that it is not all technical, as it isn't all, well, not technical. (My vocabulary
escapes me a the moment.)
I don't like all photography though. Different cameras can be, for example, completely different instruments
in a band. Especially lenses. Freaking expensive little buggers. And I can't underSTAND digital, the way band geeks can't
underSTAND choir dorks. (Unless they are one of them as well.) I'll stick to film and a scanner thankyouverymuch!
I don't like Ansel Adams' photography. Weird? Everyone seems to adore it. I do, however, love something he had
said, "When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.".
That is by far one of my favorite quotes by any person. I don't know who said this one, but my other favorite quote, is "Those
who were seen dancing were thought insane by those who could not hear the music.". Now isn't that just nifty? I think so.
"Why do you take pictures?"-many people ponder that. They don't understand. "What's
the point of taking a picture of something, it's not art, its a picture!". To those people, I must say this: Go look at some
art photography, (Like Robert Buelteman,
my current favorite.) Then write to me, and tell me what you think! I'd love to know really. Art photography isn't just what's
in the picture, although it can be if you want it that way, but it's the whole feeling of it as well. You should think about
that, or hey, try it sometime.
Anyway, photography isn't all I do, I'm 17!, but it's something I love a LOT, mainly because I don't have to talk. I stink
with words. (Guilty as charged!) But hey, I guess it's a way to find them. (As corny as THAT sounds, it's too true.) Most of these links work, if not, I'm sure I'll fix it soon :) These are just my favorite ones and they
will change, but if you want to look at my deviantart account, by all means be my guest at www.rainflowers.deviantart.com !
